J.J. McCarthy Takes Over as Giants’ Starting QB

The Giants have named J.J. McCarthy their starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Texans after benching Jameis Winston, who threw two interceptions in a loss to the Saints. McCarthy, who replaced Winston late in that game, says he is speaking up about the plays and situations he is most comfortable with, aiming to work with the coaching staff to shape the offense around his strengths. The change gives McCarthy a chance to take ownership of the role as New York looks to move forward without injured starter Jaxson Dart.
