Bears coach says Caleb Williams making progress toward possible return
After the Chicago Bears lost 31-7 at Green Bay, coach Ben Johnson told reporters that quarterback Caleb Williams is progressing from a Grade 2 hamstring strain. He's on track. We'll see if that's Atlanta or after. I think it's going to be close, Johnson said. Williams returned to limited practice Friday but was inactive for the Packers game. He suffered the injury on Sept. 20 in a Week 2 loss to Minnesota. Chicago is 3-2 and plays Atlanta in Week 6. In his absence, Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent played against Green Bay and combined for three interceptions. Williams won the Heisman at USC in 2022 after time at Oklahoma and USC. What is contested: none identified. Left-rated coverage stressed the Bears' need for Williams after the blowout and calls for him to steady the offense. Right-rated coverage led on Johnson's progress update. Whether he returns at Atlanta or later remains unresolved.
