Rams Add Joshua Karty and Jake McQuaide to Bolster Special Teams
The Los Angeles Rams signed former kicker Joshua Karty and long snapper Jake McQuaide to their practice squad as they try to stabilize a struggling special teams unit. The team has used three kickers in recent weeks: Harrison Mevis was released, Blake Grupe suffered a season-ending knee injury, and veteran Brandon McManus took over, making all five of his extra points in his Rams debut. Karty struggled with field goals before leaving the team last year, but says he is healthier after playing through a hip issue and believes he has improved; his unusual, bouncing kickoff style could also help address the Rams’ kickoff coverage problems. Coach Sean McVay has not ruled out carrying two kickers on the game-day roster.
