49ers may lack 48 players against Falcons

The undefeated San Francisco 49ers are facing a severe injury crunch ahead of their Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons, with several key players—including Nick Bosa, Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel Sr. and multiple defenders—ruled out. Coach Kyle Shanahan said the team may not have enough healthy players to fill its 48-player game-day roster, a situation he described as unprecedented in his coaching career. The 49ers have considered elevating practice-squad players and preparing others to play unfamiliar positions, while Christian Kirk’s expected return could help bolster the receiving group. Bosa, who had expressed optimism about returning, was ruled out after a workout left him sore; San Francisco will have a bye after the Atlanta game.
