The Los Angeles Chargers placed Pro Bowl safety Derwin James Jr. on injured reserve after a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury, keeping him out for at least four games and pushing a possible return to Week 12 at the earliest. James has not played since the Chargers’ Sept. 27 loss to Buffalo. The winless Chargers will also be without guard Kayode Awosika, defensive back Deane Leonard and receiver Brenen Thompson for their game against the Rams, while cornerbacks Isas Waxter and Kaiir Elam were added to the roster.

James is too important to sit until week 12 if the hamstring does not heal faster than expected.
The team has too many players out now and that makes the matchup against the Rams even tougher than it looked.
Losing Derwin James for at least four weeks is a big hit to the Chargers defense when they are already winless.
