Colts Fire GM Ballard After 2-4 Start
The Indianapolis Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard on Monday, a day after a 26-20 home loss to the previously winless Tennessee Titans dropped the team to 2-4. Owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon said the in-season move was deliberate, citing the franchise’s championship standard and the need to begin work on new leadership; the team plans a thorough search and says its goals for the season remain unchanged. Ballard had held the job since 2017, and the Colts went 72-82-1 in the regular season, reached the playoffs twice, and have not returned since 2020. The firing followed mounting frustration over the team’s struggles, including a seven-game losing streak to end last season. Head coach Shane Steichen remains in place for now.
